Nicholas Pevsner describes the church as “exceptional and might easily stand in any prosperous Nottingham village. The west steeple with pairs of angle buttresses and a thin tall spire (often repaired) rising above the battlements. Unusually elaborate west door with pinnacles and niches. Embattled nave, aisles and chancel… Inside the nave is not high for its length and width.”
The Buildings of England, Nottingham. Penguin Publishers, London. 1979.

I have visited St Peter’s church many times over the years and have a great admiration for the different aspects of its work for the people of Nottingham and beyond. Visitors come to the church from many countries and from many walks of life, enjoying its tranquillity amidst the bustle of a vibrant city centre.

The church has been well maintained by the parish for many years but the point has recently been reached at which major repairs to the stonework are necessary and the cost of these is beyond the capacity of the congregation to meet. The last appeal the church made to the wider community was over 70 years ago!

The task of maintaining and preserving this ancient building in its unique position in the city centre is vital for the community as a whole. I am therefore very glad to have been asked to act at Patron of the Appeal and I hope you will support it generously to help in ensuring its success.
