Preparing for the Baby

Inspired by Choral Evensong 12.1.03
Magnificat: Batten Fourth Service

My soul proclaims the goodness of the Lord
Lambs wool, thread. Wheel and spin, wheel and spin.
My spirit thrives in God my Saviour.
Wheel and spin. Three ply wool, three ply lamb’s wool.
For he has looked with favour on this servant
Three ply lamb’s wool, twist and wind, wind and shuttle.
From this day all generation will call me blessed.
Nine and ninety stitches. Slip one.
The Almighty has done great things for me
Knit one row. Edging. Twelve rows moss stitch.
And holy is his name.
Work until shawl reaches full span.
He has mercy on those who fear him
Continue moss stitch up each side. Twelve stitches.
In every generation.
   Next row: knit.
He has shown the strength of his arm
   Next row: purl.
And has scattered abroad the proud
   Knit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones
   Purl.
And has lifted up those bought low.
Knit 4 slip one, psso, k 2 tog.
He has filled the hungry with good things
   K4 inc 2 to end.
And the rich he sent empty away.
   Knit.
He has come to the help of his servant
   Purl.
For he has remembered his promise of mercy
   Knit.
The promise he made to our fathers
   Repeat pattern.
To Abraham and his children forever.
Work until shawl measures full span.
Glory to the Father
   Moss stitch.
And to the Son
   Twelve rows.
And to the Holy Spirit
   Cast off.
As it was in the beginning, is now
And shall be forever. Amen.
