Jack Sibley

On Friday 24 September the funeral took place at the lovely old church of St Helen’s Stapleford of Jack Sibley, a former verger at St Peter’s. The service was taken by Graham Bell, a former vicar of St Helen’s, who paid a glowing tribute to Jack’s faith and constant willingness to take on any task to help other people.

Mr Sibley – no Jack in those more formal days – joined us as “Parish Clerk and Verger” in 1969 when Canon Inglis was rector and moved to 7 Mapperley Crescent which was owned by us at the time. He retired 12 years later in early 1982 at the age of 65 in Malcolm Goldsmith’s ministry, and Malcolm remembers him with affection for his utter dependability and the friendly welcome he gave to everyone who came to the church. He returned to his roots at Stapleford with his wife Gwen and served the church and community there.

Moving tributes were paid to him by his three children, David, Jenni and Mark.
